Do most people get Alzheimer’s’s disease?
Well, I’m 63, and I must say no, most people will not develop Alzheimer’s disease or any other form of dementia, and for that, we should all be grateful. Heart disease is by far the leading cause of death. The next three are respiratory-related, such as COPD, and Diabetes is in sixth place.
Finally, Alzheimer’s Disease is found in the seventh position. When only the United States and countries in its income category (the first world) are considered, Alzheimer’s disease rises to the top of the list, but this is due to our ability to prevent so many respiratory diseases and the wealth to fight against diseases like COPD and Diabetes. We only manage to increase the number of Alzheimer’s patients because we live long enough to develop it. Alzheimer’s isn’t even in the top ten in a country where they’re still fighting infectious diseases like Malaria and Tuberculosis because people don’t live long enough to get it.
