Does exercising lower blood pressure in seniors with heart problems?
Aerobic exercises like walking, jogging, or biking will increase your cardiovascular strength and increase your heartbeat to supply more oxygenated blood to the body. The quality of blood improves by exercise, enabling proper viscosity and nutrient delivery to the tissues. So take it slow and listen to your body.
Start with 15 minutes and then build your times until you can comfortably get to 30 minutes daily. During exercises, your blood pressure temporarily raises a bit and then drops a couple of hours after. You can also do weight training to build your cardiac endurance, immunity and reduce blood pressure.
You also have to eat a well-balanced diet of protein and good fats and sleep at least 7–9 hours a day to make this work. Exercise is the only remedy for high BP as a long-term solution. An exercise regimen scientifically and systematically planned by a physiotherapist can help you immensely.
