How can you have a happy retirement?
Retired life can offer you opportunities never before possible. You are now free of alarm clocks; you are free to explore who you are and discover new hobbies and adventures, whether sitting on a neighbour’s porch and listening to their life adventures or travelling. You can also volunteer somewhere where your years of experience and wisdom can benefit others.
Spend time on yourself getting in the best possible shape and looking after your health.
Have a pension plan and save your money. The earlier, the better. Be an informed investor. Consider mortgages, car payments, credit cards, and other obligations. Ask yourself if you’re willing to cut back on your current standard of living a bit, if necessary.
Discuss and agree with your spouse on the idea and the plan. One of the most significant changes to retirement is that spouses need to settle into spending more time together. Discuss how much you and me time versus we time is required and make sure your partner is aligned with what you want to do.
Stay busy, Build something. A boat, a second level on the garage, a solution to a social problem or a business.
