1. Crossword Puzzles
It is a great brain game because crosswords are essentially a memory problem that requires one to use their recall function to find the correct words. As a senior, they can also improve their association skills since they need to match the clues with the appropriate words.
2. Sudoku
As well as improving your concentration skills, Sudoku puzzles can also improve your memory since you’ll need to remember where other numbers are located. Once a puzzle is completed, there is also a sense of accomplishment.
3. Scrabble
Scrabble may lower blood pressure, improve memory function, and increase happiness. Additionally, the endorphins released from laughing at silly words and interactions improve participants’ moods.
4. Social Interaction
Learning from others and relating stories creates a memory and a desire to ask questions. These constant mental exercises stimulate the brain. Also, interacting with the young is very stimulating. Regular interaction between grandchildren and grandparents is an excellent way to pass on the wisdom of an older generation.
5. Journaling
Encourage seniors to keep a daily diary or journal. Journals are effective memory exercises that improve memory, stimulate thinking, and boost cognitive function. Seniors have years of memories to share and can recall many experiences. The writer can speak and record his journal entries if he has trouble writing.
6. Nutrition
It is essential to eat a diet rich in antioxidants. Fresh fruits and vegetables supply the brain with nutrients that other parts of the body or system may deny. According to a study sponsored by the Food and Drug Administration, those 65 and older who take leafy green vegetables slow down cognitive decline. It is possible to boost cognitive functions and brainpower by eating the right foods.
7. Exercise
Exercise and movement are essential to maintaining the brain’s functionality in older adults. Regular walking can have many health benefits, and lowering blood pressure is just one. Stationary exercise can boost memory and brainpower for those who have trouble walking. With the help of the home care team, seniors participating in Senior LIFE have access to exercise centers and stationary exercise equipment.

Here are a few ways to have a healthy mind and active brain:
• Talk to people and stay socially engaged as much as possible.
• Stay mentally active through simple tasks like reading a book or playing brain games such as jigsaw puzzles, crosswords, or sudoku.
• Ensure your blood pressure is not too high to avoid extra strain on your brain.
• Maintain one healthy diet that includes all the nutritious and essential food your body needs.
• Stay emotionally close with your loved ones and family.
• Maintain a stable and reliable sleeping schedule.
• Think about how you can make yourself feel content and happy.
• Have consistent medical examinations to ensure a physically healthy body.
• Learn how to manage stress. Chronic stress may harm the brain and affect your memory.
• Stay physically active through regular exercise and other activities. An active body leads to a better state of mind.
• Avoid drinking alcohol and smoking as much as possible.

To me, it requires nothing extraordinary actions. We will have to be flexible now and must control our anger. Otherwise, as senior citizens, we have enough time to meditate and improve our brainpower when we are almost free from our worldly, materialistic responsibilities.
But only our anger and rigid attitude toward others become an obstacle in that journey. Also, the lack of or decrease in Physical stamina deteriorates brain function, so senior citizens must focus on maintaining their physical well-being with the help of a suitable diet and constant, acceptable physical exercise based on their body condition.

There is no fast way to achieve this. Still, there are different ways for seniors to improve their brainpower:
Solving puzzles, for example, it’s best you keep your mind intellectually active through reading, learning new things, playing brain teasers, and exploring new environments.
Staying physically active would also help. Exercising or simply walking at least 10,000 steps daily would be highly beneficial. Staying socially interactive and chilling out with good friends, staying emotionally bonded and close with family and loved ones, and doing volunteer work for the community are also effective in keeping your brain active as it was.
Having good rest and sleep is also essential in keeping your brain sharp, and eating a sensible but balanced diet with plenty of fish, fresh vegetables, and fresh fruits would be a game-changer.
Regardless of age and physical condition, staying away from oily and fried foods and avoiding smoking and alcohol are essential in protecting your health. Having regular medical checkups to keep your physical health in check would be another wise idea.
