Benefits of living close to your family
You can be a big part of your grandkids’ lives, and you can do a lot to help them. The main reason retirees move near their children is to build strong relationships with their grandchildren. It can be a pleasure to go to sports games, school concerts, and birthday parties when you retire.

The kids can ask you for help when they start their own families. People who have kids, jobs, and other things to do might want to ask you for help. You’ll also be able to help if there’s a problem, which could help you sleep better at night.

You will have an integrating social network and support structure. When you are near relatives, you will be able to visit those you care about frequently for dinners and celebrations. You can count on tasks like yard maintenance or moving furniture. If you don’t have any family nearby, you may have to hire someone to help you with chores that you can’t perform independently.

The Downsides of Living Close to Family If you live next door, you can’t be the most popular holiday place. Being a local grandparent allows you to be a part of your children’s and grandchildren’s daily lives. On the other hand, some retirees prefer to live in exotic areas where their families can frequently visit.

If you retire, you won’t choose where you live. When your primary goal is to live close to your family, you are at the mercy of their decision regarding retirement location. You may have to move to an unattractive or costly neighbourhood close to them.

You may have to follow your children around. You’ll have to move to follow your children if they change careers frequently. You might have a hard time if your kids move a lot as they start a new job.
