The multitasking process creates a substantial demand for cognitive resources, such as attention and working memory, which results in increased brain activity. As our brain becomes more active, it can use that extra energy differently because of its cognitive flexibility. However, according to studies, it’s not always easy for seniors to multitask.
Multitasking negatively impacts working memory in both young and older adults. Studies conducted at UCSF and elsewhere show that older people are more likely to experience “senior moments,” such as forgetting what they needed from the refrigerator after leaving the couch. If you enjoy being creative, crafting is something you should try! Arts and crafts are among the most practical activities for older adults. Crafting allows seniors to use their creativity and imagination while keeping their hands busy, so crafting can help you maintain dexterity.
4. Word Games
Playing word puzzles can keep elderly adults entertained and exercise their brains. It does not matter if you don’t complete the puzzle because you will enjoy searching for or guessing the missing words, depending on what kind of word game you choose. Word games are available online and in most book stores.
