Is it possible to cure dementia with music? How?
Music cannot “cure” dementia; if by “cure,” you mean to make it all go away. But, music can alter behaviours, improve memory and cognitive abilities and reduce anxiety. Many studies have already shown the efficacy of music assisting the person with dementia to navigate the day. Music, particularly music with which the person is familiar, taps into memories that give the person some slight sense of control, and control is precisely what they need.
It is also possible to help a person with dementia that has agitation by playing different types of music and leading them by their brains to a more relaxed state. It will also allow caregivers to provide a person with dementia a quality experience, if even for a few minutes.
