Is sleeping on a mattress better than sleeping on the ground?
Some people, notably seniors and those with specific health issues, mobility problems, or allergies, should avoid sleeping on the floor. If you fall into one of these risk categories, talk to your doctor before taking a nap on the floor.
We catch a cold more quickly as we get older and our bones weaken. Older people may also have arthritis or mobility difficulties, increasing their risk of falling. Lying on the floor can aggravate their cold symptoms or put them at higher risk of harm.
Some people are particularly susceptible to cold temperatures due to medical disorders such as anemia, hypothyroidism, or diabetes. That sensation may get heightened if you sleep on the floor.
If you have a problem sitting or standing up, particularly from the floor, sleeping on a bed or a modified bed is preferable. People with mobility problems find it simpler to get into and out of a higher bed than a mattress on the floor. People who get up from the floor to stand are more likely to have back pain.
