As of this day, dementia has no cure. Moreover, since several disorders cause dementia, a single treatment for dementia seems unlikely. Alzheimer’s disease, fronto-temporal dementia, and dementia with Lewy bodies are among the illnesses researchers are looking for a cure for.

• Stem cells are the building blocks of the body. Different cell types can develop from them, including brain and nerve cells. Researchers have reprogrammed skin cells from patients with certain types of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease, into stem cells in the laboratory. Following that, they triggered the stem cells to become brain cells.
• In immunotherapy, the immune system is stimulated to fight disease. The treatment has proven effective in other diseases like cancer.
• A great deal of interest has been shown in the use of gene-based therapies to target genes responsible for dementia, such as Alzheimer’s disease and frontotemporal dementia.

Most people do not know that dementia is not a disease. It is a set of symptoms that several illnesses like Alzheimer’s disease can cause. However, some medicines that doctors prescribe can temporarily ease the symptoms.
One of them is the acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitor. They raise the levels of a brain substance that enhances communication between nerve cells.
Another medicine used in more severe cases of Alzheimer’s disease is memantine. If you can’t take or endure AChE inhibitors, your doctor may prescribe this medicine instead. The side effects are temporary and may include constipation, dizziness, and headache.

Unfortunately, professionals and physicians have not been able to “cure” dementia because there are various dementia-causing conditions and diseases. Since there are multiple causes for this problem, if professionals ever find ways to get rid of dementia, the odds are against a “single” cure for dementia.
Bright minds are currently working towards finding treatments for Alzheimer’s and other dementia-causing diseases like “frontotemporal dementia” and “dementia with Lewy bodies.”
Prevention is the most effective approach to tackling conditions like dementia, diabetes, and cancer. Stimulating the brain by engaging in cognitive-sharpening activities can help one’s memory, response time, and sense of judgment.
