My senior parents are not very familiar with the technology. What gadgets or devices (computer, laptop, tablet, Chromebook, iPad, etc.) do you think I should get them?
If they don’t need a full-fledged computer, skip that and get an iPad instead and take Apple Care. The iPad is standard, there’s excellent support, there are numerous classes for it, the Mail and Safari (browser) apps work great, and they find a host of other valuable apps they will like. The best technology is the easiest one, so try to find a user-friendly gadget with a large text option and increase the contrast on the screen. It is not the technology that matters, but rather how it is set up. There should be a prominent power button and Skype or the interactive platform they can use. Plus, it should come up immediately upon startup. If they already have experience with iOS or Android through a smartphone or a friend’s device, then a tablet might be the direction to go since Android offers the most affordable models.
