What do others think of people in their 40s, 50s, or 60s starting a business?
Being in the 50s is such an exciting time; you’re open to life’s surprises if you get to this age. A self-started business is designed to be rewarding. If it weren’t, you wouldn’t do it. With this new occupational goal, I’m learning so much that’s new though many consider me experienced in my field. I like being the boss and hate being the employee. I’ve always had a burning desire to run my own business, and I’m doing it. The feedback? It has been incredibly encouraging.
First, the job you run yourself gets you out of the house and keeps you busy. Plus, I love dealing with locals; I get to know people, I enjoy socializing with them. It’s really pleasing when people look me in the eye and give me ideas about what I’m doing. It has all been very personally and socially rewarding, I hear from people in India, Finland, Brazil, and the feedback has been fantastic. They usually admire my passion for being an entrepreneur and regard me as an inspiration for the other seniors.
