What is memory care?

Memory care aims to provide people with Alzheimer’s or dementia with a structured environment and set routines that will reduce stress. Staff members serve meals and assist residents with personal care, just as they would in an assisted living facility. Still, they are also specially trained to deal with the unique challenges associated with Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia.
Residents are checked on more frequently and offered extra structure and assistance throughout the day. Residents of regular assisted living are expected to manage their time independently; mealtimes and menus are posted, but there is no direct supervision. In memory care, residents are assured of getting to meals and activities and moving on to other activities.
