What is the best sleep measurement device and/or app?
I’ve never used any of the devices or programs for sleep measurement. My iPhone’s Sleep Cycle app is the only mobile application I’ve tried to track sleeping habits, and I was utterly disappointed with it. It was, in my opinion, completely inaccurate. The problem with some of these apps that use your phone’s accelerometer is that you must be the only one in the bed. Even if this is accurate, the amount of movement measured by the device does not always accurately match your current state of sleep. Applications that use wearable technology will undoubtedly be more accurate and in line with what we often use in hospitals. Ultimately, it depends on the type of data you want to collect by monitoring your movement while sleeping. You will not receive a clear response if you want to use this to diagnose an issue like sleep apnea or a similar sleep-disordered breathing problem. I would recommend speaking with your sleep specialist about using a home monitoring device or visiting a licensed sleep laboratory for the most reliable assessment of your sleep.
