You should install the provided grab bars on the nearest side wall of the toilet. These bars will ease moving from wheelchair to toilet seat easier. Also, it’s better to install grab bars behind the toilet. You may wonder why behind the bathroom. Well, caregivers who are assisting someone in sitting or standing will find this useful.
The American Disability Association (ADA) recommends that grab bars be set horizontally between 33 and 36 inches above the completed floor to the top of the gripping surface. It is most likely due to regular usage and average height. Keep anyone who may use these grab bars heights’ in mind while installing. It must be easily reachable from the toilet to assist in standing up. If you install the bar at lower or higher heights, it may not provide enough support to prevent a fall. Setting up the bar on an angle may be helpful, too. The bar location and best style depend mainly on the way you want to use it. Visit an occupational therapist to help you choose the most appropriate type and placement of grab bars.
Your taste in Aesthetics
The prospect of changing the design of your bathroom may make you hesitant even to begin the process if you’ve designed your bathroom carefully. Luckily, the modern bars are not just practical items to interfere with your bathroom’s overall aesthetic. There are a variety of fashionable and integrated safety bar choices to choose from, including:
• Designer Curved Grab Bars
These bars have a multi-height bar with the lowest section closest to the seat to help stand up. It also serves a double purpose service containing a toilet paper holder. Select a style that matches your decor.
• Zig Zag Safety Bars
Multi-level rails, often known as Zig-Zag Safety Bars, provide sit-to-stand assistance with two levels of horizontal support and an angled part in the middle. Various coatings are also available, including glossy or polished stainless steel, powder-coated black, bronze, or white.
• Swing Up Grab Bars
This movable bar is excellent for toilets without a wall adjacent to them, and you can move it while not using it. To support on both sides, you can install two of these folding bars.
• Crescent Bars or Wave Grab
These safety bars come in various shapes and finishes to blend in with your bathroom decor and fit in as an assistive device.
