What should older adults know about using new technology products?
Older adults need to understand that technology opens the door to comfortable, safe, convenient, and more connected life. It can change their lives for the better in ways they didn’t anticipate or had access to before. What makes seniors reluctant to use technology is complicated menus, and somehow these menus have become equated with “technology.”
When microwave ovens came out, older adults loved them as much as everyone else did. These devices qualified as technology, didn’t they? So maybe they need to start with an easy gadget and then work their way up.
Complicated menus can be learned gradually, like anything else. They need not be afraid to learn the basics of working with email and using Google since these things do not involve compilations and menus and are very rewarding when you get the hang of it.
