Yokun is one of the most suitable places for retired seniors who want to enjoy a peaceful life with easy access to nature. Many recommend Whitehorse – the wilderness city – to those who like to experience a blend of city life while having the luxury of visiting Canada’s wilderness. This 30,000 inhabitants city has an average age of 38 years old and a crime index of 56.33, thanks to its 5.2% unemployment rate. The average bidding price to win a cozy home in Whitehorse lurks around $530K, which is understandable if one considers the status of this city. It’s a perfectly organized, small city that offers air transportation to its inhabitants through the Erik Nielsen airport.
Yukon’s prominent city status is mainly due to its location and role as a transportation hub close to the Gulf of Alaska. This city has cozy restaurants, fancy museums, friendly coffee shops, and art galleries aching for you to pick them up as your next date spot. Suppose you’re looking to move to the Champagne and Aishshik First Nations territory.
Then Haines Junction, a smaller and more peaceful town than its neighbour Whitehorse, that still offers access to Canada’s wilderness, is the place for you. This city has just more than 600 inhabitants, making it the perfect candidate for people looking forward to a quiet, introverted life. This city has a low crime rate, partially because most of its inhabitants are over 65. Haines has every feature that one might find in a much larger city while being just a couple minutes driving distance away from the big city area that can give one access to more specific supplies.
Kluane national park and reserve are one of the family-friendly activity centers of this town, as well as a gorgeous road that calls for a calm ride across the unspoiled country. All of these calm yet fascinating features make up for this town’s average house price, which stands above $460K.

If you are from anywhere but Canada, do not get your hopes up. Canada rarely accepts retirees as immigrants. And Yukon is a bit short of resources for medical care. But if you are a native, Yukon has it all, from unspoiled wilderness to city life and village tranquillity.
The closest place for retirement in the Yukon with good access to medical resources would be Edmonton, Alberta. The city itself is small but perfectly formed. A hub of coffee shops, great restaurants, museums, and galleries await. It combines high street fashions and big brands with more minor, unique artisan crafts for shopping.
Edmonton is the 68th highest-rated place to live in Canada, according to MoneySense1. With everything you could want in terms of conveniences and entertainment, the city is very affordable for housing and living costs.

It all depends. Are you American? If that’s the case, Canada doesn’t usually let retirees move here. In addition, the Yukon suffers from a lack of medical resources. For retirees in Yukon, Edmonton, Alberta, is the closest city with good medical care. But if you’re American, move to Alaska and take advantage of the Medicare you’ve already paid for in the state. If you’re from Canada, I’d suggest heading to Edmonton or somewhere nearby.

Yukon is a terrific place to visit. Whitehorse has more than 80% of the population and is the capital. Dawson City is next. I have suggested people visit sooner rather than later before hoards of tourists from diverse places change it from a peaceful, natural, and lonely place.
The Dempster Highway is no longer the treacherous tire-slasher that the original shale surface provided. You can now drive yourself to Tuktoyaktuk. There are primitive places on earth, but most of them have had many people for centuries. Yukon has an emptiness that is a world treasure unless you go to the much bigger Northwest Territory.
