Using melatonin pills is the safest and most natural way to remedy your insomnia and sleep disorder. Melatonin can help you to have a high-quality sleep. It decreases the time it takes to fall asleep and reduces sleepiness the following day.
Glycine is an amino acid that enhances the quality of sleep. Taking this amino acid could increase the number of brain chemicals such as serotonin that improves sleep regulation. Xanax is prescribed for most cases with anxiety and sleep disorders. Unlike the two previous pills, Xanax has a few side effects. But the good news is the chemicals in its ingredients easily and rapidly clear from blood circulation, so it doesn’t stay in your body for so long. Still, it’s crucial to consult your physician before taking any medications, especially sleeping pills.

I chose natural over chemical. Every night, I take one Valerian pill. It has other names in other brands. It’s meant to be a short-term solution. There’s also an aromatherapy oil with lavender, sandalwood, and jasmine in it. It’s packaged in a bit of rollerball tube that you use to rub to your pulse points. Tisserand sells it in the UK. I use them both together, but either one will work well for itself. I don’t think they’ll interfere with any usual medications, but it’s best to double-check with your pharmacist or doctor. They won’t give you a good night’s sleep like a sleeping pill, but they will help you relax a little more.

All sleeping pills are available strictly on doctors’ prescriptions. Talk to the doctor and have the vitamin D levels tested. Low D is associated with poor sleep, and the elderly are at greater risk for low D levels. But for your knowledge: Diazepam and Alprazolam tablets are commonly given for sleeping, and they both are effective and safe. Also, valerian is a god option: one capsule a night. It is sold under various brand names. It is supposed to be pretty short-term, although it’s safe. Melatonin and diphenhydramine (Benadryl) is another way to go. Benadryl’s manner of sedation is not conducive to resting sleep, and you might have rather a bad “hangover” the next day. It’s worth warning that melatonin also causes intense dreams, so if you’re prone to nightmares or night terrors, you may want to consult a doctor for which sleep aid is best for you.

All sleeping drugs are risky for older adults as they’re often in greater danger of drugs’ effects than younger adults.
Sleeping drugs may not leave their bodies soon enough.
The drugs may cause memory loss and dizziness, which give rise to:
Doubling the chance of hip fractures and falls are typical causes of admission to hospital and death in older adults.
Enhance the chance of car accidents.
Even the new “Z” drugs are risky. People thought they were safe, but researchers showed that the “Z” drug is not as secure as or safer than the others in the market.

Taking no medicine first
Get a thorough check-up. Depression, restless leg syndrome, anxiety, pain, etc., may cause sleep disorders. You should consider some other ways before using drugs if your check-up doesn’t show any hidden problem.

Kinds of sedative-hypnotic drugs
All of them are risky, specifically for older adults:
• Barbiturates Secobarbital (Seconal and generic)
• Phenobarbital (Luminal and generic)
• Benzodiazepines

For anxiety:
• Alprazolam (Xanax and generic)
• Diazepam (Valium and generic)
• Lorazepam (Ativan and generic)

For insomnia:
• Estazolam (generic only)
• Flurazepam (Dalmane and generic)
• Quazepam (Doral)
• Temazepam (Restoril and generic)
• Triazolam (Halcion and generic)
• “Z” drugs Zolpidem (Ambien and generic)
• Eszopiclone (Lunesta)
• Zaleplon (Sonata and generic)
