Why do seniors prefer sleeping in reclining chairs to beds?
I believe the reason is they’re more comfortable in it. Sleeping in a chair rather than a bed is probably not considered normal, yet I’m prepared to bet that many older folks do it every night. If it works for you and doesn’t harm others, then you’re good to go.
It’s a matter of personal taste, and there’s no explanation why people like it. I also know various medical reasons why a reclined position might be preferable to laying down horizontally. It can help with back discomfort and several other GI disorders.
Stores sell inclined bed rests for people who suffer from acid reflux and find it challenging to sleep flat.
My parents used to pull me up in bed with pillows when I was a kid, so it prevented me from coughing so much at night when I was sick. The majority of people are sleep-deprived. If you can find anything that lets you get enough rest, you’re doing better than most.
I believe this position would be most suited to folks who prefer to sleep on their backs. Since I sleep on my sides, it will most my back and neck uncomfortable.
