• Enjoy a Variety of Healthy Foods
As you get older, you need less food, but you may need more vitamins or minerals. Thus, ensure you are getting enough nutrients by eating various healthy foods. Choose fruit and vegetables, whole grains, and proteins that you enjoy eating. Consider eating frozen and canned options; they are healthy and convenient.
In case of a change in your taste or smell, add different spices and herbs instead of salt. You can also change the texture and temperature of food to make it more interesting. If you have difficulty eating certain foods, consider choosing and preparing them differently. For example, cooked vegetables have a softer texture than raw ones.

• Drink Water
Your thirst sense may diminish as you age, but regularly drinking regardless of feelings of thirst is still essential. To stay hydrated, drink water at every meal and snack. Avoid sugary drinks and drink water instead.
You can also stay hydrated with the following foods and beverages:
• Lower-fat white milk
• Low sodium soups
• Vegetables and fruits
• Unsweetened fortified soy beverages

• Eat with Others
It’s a great experience to eat with others. In addition, it encourages you to eat more nutritious foods.
Try:
• Joining a lunch group
• Having a neighbour over for lunch
• Inviting a family member over
• Organizing a potluck for friends
• Looking for monthly lunches and community kitchens at local seniors’ community centers.
Below are some ways to make mealtimes more enjoyable:
• Make a new recipe
• Find a comfortable place to eat
• Listen to music you enjoy while eating
