“Is there a caregiver allowance, and can I get paid to take care of my parents?” this seems to be a widely unanswered question among younger adults. The answer is mostly negative since the only province in Canada that offers such an allowance is Nova Scotia (called The Caregiver Benefit Program).
But before you pack your suitcases and your parents, and run out to this tremendous eastern province, check out the insurance benefits and the federal tax benefits available to all Canadian citizens.
The program is planned for caregivers of low-income adults who have a high level of disability, as specified by a Home Care assessment. If the care recipient and the caregiver both qualify for it, they will receive $400 each month.
