Your body needs vitamins to grow and function properly. The 13 essential vitamins are — vitamins A, C, D, E, K, and the B vitamins (thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, biotin, B6, B12, and folate).
Each vitamin plays a specific role in keeping the body healthy; they may protect you from infections, help your nerves, and help your body get energy from food.
Others may help your body get power from food or allow your blood to clot properly. As long as you follow the dietary guidelines, you’ll be able to get enough vitamins and minerals from foods.
Our bodies require minerals to function; they can be found in the earth and foods. It is only necessary to consume minimal amounts of minerals, such as iodine and fluoride.
Others, such as calcium, magnesium, and potassium, are required in greater quantities. Similar to vitamins, it is likely that you will get enough minerals if you eat a well-balanced diet.
