1. Walking Canes
Walking canes come in all sizes and forms, and they are some of the oldest and most affordable assistive tools in existence. If properly used, walking canes help lower the risk of a severe fall by improving balance and stability. They are also highly effective at reducing the amount of weight placed on lower-body joints, making them popular with arthritis people and those healing from surgery.
2. Two-Wheel Walkers
As the name suggests, they are walkers using two wheels instead of four. Like walking canes, two-wheel walkers are great for seniors with mild to severe balance issues and people with lower-body weakness to prevent falling effectively. Two-wheel walkers can handle one-half of your weight when used correctly. There are other advantages too; for example, the front-wheeled walkers do not need picking up, so they are ideal for elders with upper-body weakness as well. Walkers can lessen joint pain by taking weight off the lower half of the body. Plus, they improve posture while helping elders get back their strength and lost muscle.
3. Stairlifts
Moving up and down the stairs safely can be a severe issue for many elders. Based on the American Journal of Emergency Medicine, more than one million Americans are injured on the stairs every year. For family caregivers, this statistic can be frightening. Fortunately, stairlifts are popular, and they have helped millions of older adults stay independent and mobile in their own houses.
4. Activator Poles
This is a mobility tool in the shape of a pole that decreases stress on lower-body joints and helps restore a healthy gait. Activator poles are especially popular among older active adults. Like other assistive devices, they can improve your balance, posture, and stability; they also can be used around the house or while walking. Activator Poles is made of high-quality materials such as aluminum alloy – so you don’t need to worry about collapsing.
