Which is cheaper nursing home or assisted living?
Due to the more extensive medical care provided in nursing homes, they cost more than an assisted living facility. Nursing homes’ services include administering prescription medicine and injections, dental care, preventative and palliative long-term care, etc. In the United States, people pay $7,989 per month on average for a semi-private room at a nursing home.
A fully private room costs around $9,086. In contrast, assisted living communities cost only $4,300 per month (on average). All in all, nursing homes, while not cheap, are more fitting for seniors with substantial medical needs. They also provide on-site amenities and some companionship.
On the other hand, assisted living facilities focus less on health care. Their priority is maintaining a safe environment that helps with physical health, social connection, and intellectual stimulation.
