Both are costly, but nursing homes can cost more than twice as much as assisted living. The average monthly expense of a nursing home is from $6,844 to $7,7003, while assisted living costs about $3,628. So, how can you cover the high costs of assisted living or nursing homes?

Nursing homes are more expensive comparing assisted living facilities. The high amount of fees in nursing homes is due to their services. These facilities offer pretty much everything older adults need health-wise. If you or your loved ones have any disabilities, complex conditions, dementia, or cancer, nursing facilities are a better option than assisted living.
But make sure to do your research first. If you’re looking for a home for someone with dementia or Alzheimer’s, you might also need to consider memory care.

Due to the more extensive medical care provided in nursing homes, they cost more than an assisted living facility. Nursing homes’ services include administering prescription medicine and injections, dental care, preventative and palliative long-term care, etc. In the United States, people pay $7,989 per month on average for a semi-private room at a nursing home.
A fully private room costs around $9,086. In contrast, assisted living communities cost only $4,300 per month (on average). All in all, nursing homes, while not cheap, are more fitting for seniors with substantial medical needs. They also provide on-site amenities and some companionship.
On the other hand, assisted living facilities focus less on health care. Their priority is maintaining a safe environment that helps with physical health, social connection, and intellectual stimulation.

First, it’s helpful to know what nursing homes and assistant living are. Nursing homes are long-term residences, and medical assistance is available for people with chronic illnesses and injuries.
Assistant livings are residences equipped to help people with daily life when needed. If they are long-term, both will be expensive, but nursing homes can be more than double assisted living costs.
