Can you learn another language by playing Scrabble?
Yes. Playing games like Scrabble can help you learn any language -if that language has a scrabble version- and improve your vocabulary. However, you can primarily benefit from scrabble by increasing your vocabulary. Obviously, you’ll need other resources for other language skills.
So with playing scrabble, you won’t reach fluency because it is only a small tool that teaches you more words. Also, if you play scrabble online, some apps allow you to connect with native speakers and learn from them.
Frankly, I believe so. However, it takes a lot of patience with oneself and a decent bilingual dictionary. It helped me with my English. My primary language is Spanish. By the time I started kindergarten, I knew how to speak Spanish, French, and Italian. Until that point, I did not need to study English.
My parents felt that one of the most effective methods to improve my English skills would be to play Scrabble. It was challenging because I would try to spell terms in Spanish or French that the English dictionary would not take as valid English.
Within two years, my knowledge of the English language improved to the level of any of my previous classmates. I’m still playing Scrabble in Spanish, English, and French more than a half-century later. I assume you enjoy trying it. However, you should be aware that it might be a challenging effort.
NO! What are you trying to learn?! Are there no online courses? Audiobooks? Podcasts? Nothing?!
We learn a language primarily through listening and speaking. Unless someone has taught Scrabble to talk, you have zero chance of learning a new language by playing a word game!
Yes, you have this opportunity to learn different languages and expand your vocabulary by playing games such as scrabble, which connect you to native speakers from other parts of the world. Whether you write the words down or look them up depends on how eager you are or how much you want to memorize them.
