What are the red flags of a bad nursing home?
It would be a significant red flag if there were not enough staff in the facility. Always look to ensure that there’s ample staffing and go tour facilities around shift changes especially. Seeing who comes and goes will not allow the facility enough time to call others when they realize a tour is being done.
Another red flag would be the smell of urine when you walk in. Even a good nursing home can have a temporary bad smell coming from one room, but a pervading smell of urine is not just a sign that the residents’ underwear isn’t being changed promptly. It could also mean they’re dehydrated.
